Looks like a sap blob, basically a tree scab. Something damaged the bark and it leaked a bit.

Some one threw a week old McDouble at it and not the McDouble is trying to mate with the tree. The tree is having non of it.

This is it’s current state. I think a squirrel got to it, but no dead ones found.
